This spring when I started up my chainsaw for the first time it didn't want to idle. Once the clutch is engaged, it turns the sprocket which then turns the chain. The inner part of the clutch is connected to the engines drive shaft that spins constantly as your engine runs.Īs you give the engine gas, 2 mechanical arms are pushed out by centrifugal force which engages the outer rim of the clutch. It's actually a pretty simple part that plays a big role in how your chainsaw functions.
